Robert's Bio

Since 2001, Robert Johnson has assisted human service organizations meet their strategic goals as an accreditation consultant, a contract employee, an educator, and a trainer. In addition, he has been a CARF surveyor since 1996.
The following is a brief review of Robert’s contributions to the human service field as an independent provider for the past 10 years:
Accreditation Consultant: Over 120 organizations have achieved optimal CARF survey accreditation outcomes for behavioral health, employment and community services, medical rehabilitation, and opioid treatment programming as a direct result of Robert's guidance and support.
In 2002, Robert founded the first online website (Accreditation Now) focused exclusively on providing tools, resources, and guidance to organizations in support of meeting the CARF accreditation standards, and utilized his 6 years at the helm of that organization to create a new and much improved accreditation support resource: Accreditation Readiness
Contract Employee: Over the past 10 years Robert has worked for multiple CARF accredited organizations as a contract employee in the following employee roles:
- Performance Evaluation: Design and implementation of competency-based performance evaluation systems.
- Clinical Supervision: Organizational-based individual and group supervision systems linked to annual performance evaluation.
- Recruitment and Hiring: Advertising strategies, screening, interviews, and hiring.
- Program Start-Ups: Obtaining and furnishing offices, hiring personnel, designing and implementing policy and procedures, initial marketing, new personnel training, and revenue source development.
- Performance Improvement: Design, implementation, and oversight of organizational administrative and clinical performance improvement systems, including performance analysis and improvement initiatives.
- Administrative Management: Restructuring administrative information management systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness within operations.
Educator and Trainer: During the past 10 years, Robert has facilitated, or co-facilitated, over 40 two-day experiential trainings in the following areas:
- Cultural Competency
- Assessment and Treatment Planning
- Human Resource Management
- Evidence-Based Treatment
- Performance Improvement
- The Process of Accreditation
CARF Surveyor: As a CARF surveyor, Robert has supported the mission of CARF through his participation as a member of CARF survey teams during each of the past 14 years. In addition, Robert has attended continuing CARF surveyor training annually in Tucson for the past 11 years and has also participated in the training of new surveyors.
Employee, Student, and Licensed Professional: From 1985 to 2001, Robert was involved in the delivery of a variety of behavioral health and employment and community service programs. He has worked in both the private and public sector and his employment history includes community-based psychosocial case management, return-to-work medical case management, addiction counseling, administrative and program utilization review, and serving as director of employee assistance, chemical dependency, and vocational rehabilitation programs within a 1,200+ FTE medical center. In addition, Robert has provided supervision for counselor licensure (LPC) in the state of Missouri.
Robert received a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1985, with a primary focus in Counseling Psychology, and a specialty in Rehabilitation Counseling. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling and Personnel Services in 1984, from the same university. Robert has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1985.
Flip Sides: Robert resides in Columbia, Missouri, and enjoys spending time with his family and writing, recording, and performing blues music in his spare time.
